Book fair allows students to master their reading

More than 250 students from Varnett Public School Southwest took advantage of a week-long Scholastic book fair last week to help their reading skills.

"They buy most of these books to have a continuing status of reading," said Ms. Deloris Jackson, the librarian. "Some of these students can't get to libraries and this is a way for them to purchase books and keep them."

The Scholastic Book Fair took place at the campus library and was the last of two books sales held this year.  Ms. Jackson said she likely will use the proceeds to buy more books or purchase an audio sound system for the library. For more than 30 years, Scholastic has been providing students, teachers, and parents with access to thousands of affordable books and educational products.
