Message from the Director

Welcome families to a year that promises to be full of learning, fun, friendships and growth.  We, the preschool staff, are excited to begin our year with new adventures and ideas.  Most of our new students have started and the remaining few are continuing to enroll in school. We have a lot of new students and parents -- and a few new staff members as well. Please feel free to stop by the bulletin board by the front desk to familiarize yourself with our school staff.

As “newcomers” to our pre-k classrooms, you undoubtedly have questions as to how your child’s class operates. I would like to take this opportunity to explain some aspects of our program. At the beginning of each month, a newsletter will be given out with pertinent information from the preschool highlighting the month’s activities. You will receive a newsletter and a breakfast and lunch menu each month. This information will be posted on the parent information board. You may also find the breakfast and lunch menus at varnett.org under the “Parents” tab.

We are extremely proud of our pre-kindergarten program.  As we eagerly accommodate this specific age group of students, it is imperative that we do not misconstrue our program with requirements of various “daycare” facilities. In order for our students to participate in this program, it is imperative that students and parents adhere to all state mandates, school policies and procedures (attendance, tardiness, homework, assignments, uniform requirements, discipline, school disruptions, etc.  Ensuring the success of each child is a collaborative effort on behalf of the parent and the entire school community.

The Varnett Public School would not be the school it is without the dedication of the parents and the community. We value each and every parent (guardian) and look forward to working with you. Our campus offers ways for families and parents to participate in the program throughout the school year. We are highly sensitive to our parents' busy schedules but also recognize the importance of  parent involvement. We will have a variety of events throughout the year. Some involve fundraising, networking with other parents, parenting tips, parent-teacher conferencing, classroom and campus parent participation, service hours and PTO involvement.  Additionally, parents will be asked to participate in our family survey because this information will be useful in making improvements campus-wide.

At the beginning of the school year, our main goals are to:

  1.   Establish a sense of security in the children through the setting of routines.
  2.   Foster an easy separation from parent(s).
  3.   Encourage the adjustment to new classmates and teachers.

Each year is somewhat different, depending on the needs of the children and their personalities, the dynamics of each class, the special events throughout the year and even the weather!  We embark on a new school year with joy and enthusiasm, and we thank each of you for your support of our program.  Thank you for choosing Varnett Pre-Kindergarten Southwest. We are truly committed to fulfilling our mission of highly quality care for our young children in a safe and nurturing environment while contributing to the development and well-being of students and their families. We are looking forward to sharing a wonderful year with all of you!
