Southwest Pre-K celebrates Cinco de Mayo with music, fashion show

There was a large representation of parents who came out to support their children for our Cinco de Mayo program on Tuesday.

The students participated in the Mr. and Miss Cinco de Mayo fashion show, walked the red carpet and were recipients of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place trophy. The first place winners were Rhyannah Ugalde and Darrance Waller; second place went to Sheila Vargas and Da'Sayy Waller, and McKenzie Estelle and Kamren Stevenson finished third.

Each class had a presentation that impressed our visitors.  The PreK staff members were very proud as their classes recited their parts for the audiences.  Everyone who attended enjoyed the festivities, food and the program.  The Mariachi Origen Y Tradicion band played  various songs and sang, with former Varnett student Madalyn Hernandez, a singer, also participating.

Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations, according to history.com.

We thank all parents who came to the program.
