Pre-K students from Early Childhood Center and Southeast campuses received their diplomas today as their parents looked on with pride.
The ceremony combining the two campuses took place at the Power Center, an attractive venue for rewarding students for their hard and productive work during the 2018-19 school year. The last day of school is Friday, May 31, 2019.
The proceedings came as Dr. Margaret Stroud announced that the Texas Legislature agreed to fully fund all-day pre-kindergarten. It was legislation that won the support of influential business leaders.
Dr. Stroud congratulated the students and thanked their parents for making Varnett their school of choice. In addition to receiving diplomas, several students were honored for individual awards.
Six parents also were acknowledged for their volunteer work at school.
In moving forward, the superintendent encouraged students to read about 15 minutes a day, or for parents to read to their children.
Kindergarten is the next step for these graduating students and speakers at the ceremony said the students will definitely be prepared for the challenge. Dr. Stroud said her goal is that all students read at grade level beginning in third grade.
Northeast campus will have promotional ceremonies on Thursday at The Fellowship of Enlightenment Church and East will host its ceremonies on Friday at the campus multi-purpose room.
