Math and Science Night shows how students can learn at home

Math and Science Night on Oct. 8  allowed parents to take a peek inside of their child's classroom.

On this night, the young students learned how to match numbered keys with locks and simulated a volcano by mixing baking soda, vinegar and food coloring in a half cup of water.

Parents were able to get strategies from the staff that will allow the students to make connections between home and school and to practice skills that can be reinforced at home. When parents partner with school, research shows that students are more successful and the child's confidence in skills increases.

Students learn skills that include number sense, representation of numbers through words, pictures, symbols, objects, spatial sense, measurement, estimation, patterns and problem solving, critical thinking, analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning and learning the content vocabulary.

Thanks to the parents who came for Math and Science Night.
