McTeacher's Night nets more than $200 for campuses

Staff from Southwest campus and Early Childhood Center raised more than $200 by partnering with McDonald's on McTeacher's Night Nov. 7.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., they rolled up their sleeves at McDonald's,10315 S. Post Oak at West Bellfort. The fund-raising amount represents 20 percent of the total sales during the three-hour period.

McTeacher’s Night, an annual event, is a popular fundraising program that takes place in McDonald’s restaurants. Educators, students, parents and friends are invited to their local McDonald’s to work for a designated school-related cause.

The West Bellfort McDonald's has been Southwest's and ECC's corporate sponsor for several years. This year, the restaurant has committed to donating kid's meals gift-cards to Varnett students.

Twelve staff members volunteered for this event. Among the patrons were 20 Varnett families, said Ms. Pamella Thomas, parent liaison for the two campuses. The Varnett volunteers worked alongside the regular McDonald's staff at the drive-through window and cash registers. They also delivered food to the tables.

"The McDonald's staff were kind, very patient and pleasant," Ms. Thomas said. "We had an awesome time."

She thanked the Varnett families who came for the special event. "The atmosphere was exciting, fun and festive," Ms. Thomas said.

Ms. Thomas said the money will go toward the promotional ceremonies of Pre-K, fifth- and eighth-graders in the spring.

Thank you, McDonald's, for our long-standing partnership.
