Students enjoy fun-filled week before break

The Early Childhood Center loaded this week with a variety of holiday fun-filled themes before the winter break.

The week included the hosting of Santa's Workshop featuring crafting, painting, treats and more in an all-day event.

The campus also hosted a Peppermint Holiday Party in which students were encouraged to wear their best holiday attire. Students also posed for holiday pictures.

Also this week, the campus treated students to a special viewing of "The Polar Express" based on the novel by Chris Van Allsburg. On this day, students were allowed to wear their pajamas and bring sleeping bags. The fun event featured an admission ticket to the movie and a holiday snack.

And finally, the students engaged in an "Ugly Sweater Competition," with the criteria including creativity, unflattering fit, far-out style and visual impact. The competition was a great way for students and parents to show off their creativity – the tackier, the better. Students La'Niyah Blanton placed first; Jason Maya, second; Ivanna Rosales, third; Gavin Henry, fourth and Alberto Tejada, fifth.

We also want to thank Southwest campus and Early Childhood Center PTO President Robert Bishop and PTO Vice President Calariell Johnson for giving the staff homemade desserts, including pecan praline, carrot cake, peach cobbler, pecan brownies and coconut cake.

The staff at the Early Childhood Center wishes our Varnett family a happy and safe winter holiday season and we will see you again on Tuesday, January 7, 2020!
