Health and safety alert

The winter cold and rain has increased the number of colds and viruses for staff and students.

Parents, we are taking the necessary precautions to keep our children healthy and safe during the season, particularly with the threat of the coronavirus outbreak. You can keep up with the latest news about the coronavirus and actions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control at https://www.cdc.gov.

You can also find updates at the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The current coronavirus outbreak is unique in that it is a new strain of coronavirus, and humans do not have the naturally built-up immunity to this strain that exists for similar respiratory viruses.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent 2019-nCoV infection.

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. As a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions which we encourage at school to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay at home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Our custodians clean classrooms and common areas each day and disinfect used surfaces and restrooms daily. These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of viruses.

As new information is available, or if public health recommendations for schools change, we will keep our community informed.

Thank you,
Nurse Allen
