Dr. Buford reads Ten Little Pumpkins to Early Childhood students

Varnett students are learning from various district sources.

Dr. Brandie Buford, Varnett's Director of Accountability and Testing, recently read 10 Little Pumpkins to PreK and kindergarten students at the Early Childhood Center. She read to students in all six classrooms, both face to face and virtually.

"I was a reading teacher so reading is my passion every day," Dr. Buford said in an interview. "I just want to continue that practice and pass it on to the students."

The picture book contains rhymes on each page to be completed by the reader and offers educational and fun reading for parents and children to enjoy together. She said the book is designed to help children with math, especially counting, and to make the connection between math and reading.

Thank you, Dr. Buford, for taking the time to read to our impressionable children.

In the meantime, each of the 40 students meeting face to face with teachers last week received math, reading, writing notebooks and a healthy snack to take home, said Mrs. Cheyne Brown, District Director of Early Childhood. "It is extremely important for them to work at home for enrichment and intervention purposes," Mrs. Brown said.
