SW Thanksgiving food drive serves 200 families

A Thanksgiving food drive at the Southwest campus served about 200 families Friday, Nov. 20.

Southwest and the Early Childhood Center teamed up with the Houston Food Bank as Varnett staffers loaded up vehicles with food designed to last through the Thanksgiving holidays and beyond.

All community families were welcome. Items included ready-to-eat meals such as cereal, extra-large boxes of Jiffy cornbread, fruits and vegetables, large boxes of spaghetti sauce and pasta, red beans and rice, and water.

"The food drive was our opportunity to address a need within the community," said Mr. Jesse Arps, director of the Southwest campus. "We are aware of the pandemic and the disruption to everyday life that the pandemic has caused. Our goal was to ease the burden that has been placed on our community members and stakeholders. We hope we were successful."

A special thanks goes to the Houston Food Bank.

The Varnett family wishes a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Be safe and stay well.
