October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month when students are encouraged to spread the word to their families about cancer awareness and prevention. Students and staff from all Varnett campuses have their way of commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but wearing pink is a common practice.
Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.
