Parents brave inclement weather for Open House/Family Night

PK-4 had 60 parents attend Open House/Family Night Thursday evening and the turnout was especially impressive because of the inclement weather.

Parents gathered at the Southwest Campus cafeteria where they were welcomed by Dr. M. Annette Cluff, Varnett’s charter school superintendent, before heading to the Pre-K building. Dr. Cluff announced that The Varnett Public School was among only 28 percent of school districts in Texas to meet the Adequate Yearly Progress requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act. Individually, the Southwest, Northeast and East campuses  were among 44 percent of campuses in Texas to meet the standards. She thanked the parents for their continuing support in their children's education.

From there, the parents visited classrooms, talked with teachers, listened to various presentations, viewed the recently-installed lap tops and watched features exhibited on the Promethean Boards. The Promethean Boards are interactive whiteboards that connect to computers, allowing students to have hands-on, personal involvement with their learning. What a great technology.

Refreshments were served and parents were entertained with great music. Thank you, parents, for your participation and we’re looking forward to having a great school.
