Clifford the Big Red Dog is expected to visit the Southwest Campus library Friday on the final day of the Scholastic Book Fair, Ms. Jackson, the librarian, said Wednesday.
Clifford’s appearance will cap a week when students from all grade levels have been buying books, posters and other items at discount prices.
With more than 126 million books in print, Clifford is Scholastic’s official mascot and a literacy classic that has been embraced by parents, teacher and students, according to the Scholastic website.
“Clifford has been teaching kids life lessons like being kind, sharing, helping others and being a good friend for nearly 50 years through his heartwarming journeys and adventures with friends,” it says on the site.
The library has been filled with books and electronics from the Scholastic Book Fairs to help children with their learning. An electronic Smart Board was purchased for the library and is being used every day, Ms. Jackson said.
“I’m doing great with sales,” she said Wednesday after PreK through 5th grade students streamed through the library shopping for books and a host of other items.
“Reading is the most important skill for students to develop to continue learning in school and life,” Ms. Jackson said. “Giving kids access to books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills the more they practice reading the more they will read.”
