Nearly 400 students throughout the district were signed up today for bus service in preparation for the school year that starts on Monday.
At the Southwest Campus, parents lined up early to take advantage of the first-come, first serve policy by The Varnett Public School.
In doing so, they also had the opportunity to meet the respective bus drivers who will transport children to and from school. The Southwest Campus cafeteria soon filled up with parents and students by mid-morning.
The final district-wide signup tally was 386, said Kerry Shelton, Varnett's transportation coordinator.
The signup continues Tuesday, August 18; Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the campus where the child will be attending.
Those children who rode the bus last school year must sign up again for 2014-15.
About 20 parents were lined up at Northeast Campus before 9 a.m. today while East Campus reported a light turnout this morning.
