The Chuck E. Cheese’s mascot from Sugar Land popped up at the Southwest PK campus Friday and handed out certificates of attendance for 62 students who didn’t miss a day of school during the first semester.
The event occurred in the cafeteria as several parents watched their children rush up to hug the mouse-like, human character who is the face of the family entertainment center and restaurant chain.
“School is your first and most important job,” Mrs. Cheyne Brown, the campus director told the students. “It’s hard to be successful at school when you are home.”
Mrs. Brown and Dr. Margaret Stroud, Varnett’s superintendent, thanked the parents for ensuring that their children made it to school every weekday from August 24, 2015 to December 11, 2015.
“We need you here every day so you will be ready for kindergarten,” Dr. Stroud said to the students. “I’m going to be out there every day to make sure you are on the bus.”

In addition to meeting the lovable mascot, the students received a Jack-in-the-Box certificate for a milkshake and were treated to a popcorn party, courtesy of the campus. And that’s not all. The names of the perfect-attendance students will be entered into a drawing and two lucky winners will receive a $10 H-E-B gift card.
In expressing her gratitude to parents, Mrs. Brown said: “If you have any (attendance) challenges at home, please let us know. We always try to find a resolution.”
